In light of the Robin Hood season finale... or maybe in it's darkness? I just had this idea- what was going through Guy's head at the end. As such, it has major spoilers.

Title: Embers
Rating: er, I don't really know what to do for this... PG PG13ish I think?
Characters: Guy, Marion. Not written in 1st person, but essentially from Guy's PoV
Warnings: Well, the obvious spoilers for the finale so if you haven't seen it you probably don't want to read it.
Disclaimer: Robin hood is not mine, nor are it's characters, dialog, ect. If it was, I wouldn't have to write this.

He could feel it- he was standing on the brink of something. Something terrible.

"I would rather die than be with you, Guy of Gisborne."

He froze, hand tightening on his sword.  Something roared up inside him.

"No..."

He was saying no to her as much as to himself.  The fire in his heart, which he had tryed so long and hard to bank, was growing. He could feel the rage clawing at him, as he had before. His jaw clenched, trying to keep it under control. But it was building.

"I'm going to marry Robin Hood." And she had said it with a smile.

But it was not the smile he had come to love, it was taunting, goading, and cruel. It was not filled with kindness, as her smile when he had saved her from hanging for being the Night Watchman.  It was cold, as if she were looking down on him, as if she knew ,and enjoyed,  how it hurt him. She had seen the dieing embers in his heart, and she had kicked them, stirred them back to life.

"I love Robin Hood."

Memories flashed through his mind as he stared at her.

"It's not like that, I CARED about you!"
"Lepers, Gisborne."
The walls around his rage were cracking, the fire gaining strength.

She looked back at him.  "I love Robin Hood."

But in his head, he also heard her say: Don't you have the courage to finish this yourself? After all my so-called betrayals, you should be glad to do it.

That was when he broke, when the fire flared, taking his heart with it.  But already he hated himself for it. He watched as his sword went through her, in that rush of anger he couldn't control.  And then it was gone, as he pulled her to him, her cry of pain mixed with his of anguish. The fire, while it burned bright and hot, burned quick.  It had been reduced to a tiny spark again as he held her in his shaking arms.  He could feel her knees buckle, and he lacked the strength to hold her up. She fell slowly, and their eyes met.  While she looked more an angel now than ever, with her white clothes and his eyes blurring with tears, the look in her eyes... it was partly of understanding, partly of dissappointment. His were full of pain, and all the apologies he could never voice to her.  Marion slid to the ground, but it was his breath that caught in a sob as he backed away, watching blood stain her shirt.

"Marion!"

He barely heard Robin Hood and the others yell as they ran toward her. A strangled sound came from his throat, tears beginning to run down his cheeks.

"Gisborne!"

There was only one reason he follwed the Sheriff's voice. He was used to it, the response automatic.  It required no thought to run and jump to the back of the Sheriff's horse. He didn't have room for thoughts anymore, only the dying embers of his heart.
*sigh*

"Don't you have the courage to finish this yourself?"
Unfortunately it appears he did. Still gutted about it.
But amazing fic :D I like the idea of a wall cracking that was holding back his rage.
